10. Secret Nazi Nuclear Bunker
When one thinks of the Nazis, the image of destructive warfare often comes to mind, but their covert operations were extensive.
In 2019, filmmaker Andreas Hofer uncovered a hidden network of Nazi underground bunkers near Linz, Austria. These bunkers, which were part of the Nazis' attempts to develop an atomic bomb, were located using declassified intelligence reports and radiation tests. Built by forced labor from a nearby concentration camp, the site spans approximately 75 acres. The underground tunnels are believed to connect to the Bergkristall factory, where Germany’s first jet-powered fighter planes were developed.
Though the excavation was halted due to lack of permits, the find remains a significant piece of wartime history.
