Kevin Costner's Departure and Reflections
Kevin Costner, the legendary actor who played John Dutton in Yellowstone, recently opened up about his time on the show and his reasons for leaving. In a candid interview on the Armchair Expert podcast, Costner expressed his deep admiration for the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, and the authenticity of the script. "Yellowstone was just a really great script. I just believed in the world, I knew it was a soap opera. I knew we should all be in jail. We’ve all killed people there, and so you throw logic out the window, right, a little bit," Costner shared, highlighting the unique and dramatic elements of the series that drew him in.

The Passion Behind Horizon
While Costner’s appreciation for Yellowstone is evident, his departure was driven by a need to focus on his passion project, the Horizon movies. These films, which explore the American West, are a dream project for Costner. When Yellowstone was filming the second half of season 5, Costner tried to reduce his filming days to accommodate Horizon, but ultimately decided to leave Yellowstone to fully commit to his new endeavor.
"Horizon is something I’ve always wanted to do. It’s a love letter to the old American west," Costner explained.
