In the story "Source of the Dangers in My Heart," Ichikawa Kuro is a high school student whose inner turmoil is both intense and oddly captivating. He sits in class, engrossed in a murder encyclopedia, feeling disconnected and somewhat disturbed. His classmates are preoccupied with trivial jokes, which only deepens his sense of isolation. Kuro wrestles with dark thoughts and violent fantasies, particularly fixating on Anna Yamada, a beautiful and popular girl at school.

Anna, who is also a magazine model, becomes the focal point of Kuro’s morbid curiosity. Despite her beauty, Kuro harbors disturbing thoughts about her suffering. He is overwhelmed by these feelings and is often on the verge of acting on his darker impulses, though he struggles to control them. His obsession with Anna drives him to imagine her in various states of distress, which he paradoxically finds alluring.
During lunch, Kuro finds solace in the library, away from the raucous classroom. To his surprise, Anna is also there, eating her lunch.
Kuro awkwardly observes her from behind the book shelves, contemplating whether this is the moment to act on his impulses. However, he refrains and instead watches as she finishes her rice cakes and chips.
