The story begins with a masked man who swiftly defeats a swarm of monsters, but he is left unsatisfied, craving more combat. Meanwhile, in a nearby town, a man flees from goblins, only to be saved by a group of warriors who return triumphantly to town. As they pass by the castle, a young guard named Fate watches them enviously. He feels disconnected from these heroes, as his only ability is the seemingly useless skill, Gluttony, which leaves him in a constant state of hunger.

The town's crowd is excited by the arrival of the powerful Holy Knights, the Valaric siblings, but Fate knows their true nature. The eldest, Raphael, and his siblings are cruel, demonstrated when Raphael throws Fate's payment on the ground and his brother Hanto steps on his hand. They berate him for being disgusting when his stomach growls from hunger. Before the abuse can escalate further, another Holy Knight, Roxy, intervenes. She reminds the siblings of their duty to protect the people, and they reluctantly leave.
Roxy consoles Fate, praising him for his work and offering him support.
Despite Roxy's kindness, Fate chooses to distance himself from her, fearing that his connection to her could put her in danger.
