In the world of period dramas, relationships make or break the story, and fans of the popular series 'Downton Abbey' were in for a surprise when Season 3 aired. A key friendship that had left a mark in Bridgerton's books was nowhere to be seen; the solid companionship between Lady Danbury and Penelope was missing. This came as a disappointment to many, as the series had previously built up their closeness.

Producer Jess Brownell had a lot to say about this development in an interview with 'Decider'.
She explained: "There were a few different reasons. I mean, first of all, I do love the Penelope and Lady Danbury connection in the book. We felt like we've watched two seasons of Lady Danbury being heavily involved in moulding or shaping the main couple and we wanted to give her a storyline that was more about her. And not just about her being an accessory on the sidelines to someone else's story. We wanted to put her more front and centre.
"

As much as fans missed this partnership, there's a silver lining.
Producer Jess Brownell hinted at the possibility of revisiting this friendship in future seasons. The healthy essence these two characters bring to the storyline in the books might find its way back to the screen, satisfying viewers who yearn to see Lady Danbury shepherd Penelope once again in the convolutions of high society.
