In the heart of Hollywood, where stars shine both on and off the screen, there’s a legendary feline who has captured the hearts of many—a black cat named Close Up. Over the past nine years, Close Up has been a beloved fixture at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, a resting place for Hollywood royalty. His story is one of serendipity, affection, and a remarkable journey from cemetery cat to house panther.
A Star Is Born: Close Up’s Hollywood Debut
Close Up’s tale began when Karie Bible, a tour guide at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, first encountered him.
Despite her initial allergy to cats, Close Up, with his striking black fur and captivating presence, immediately took a liking to her. Bible, who was leading a tour, saw Close Up prancing around the crypt of the famous director Cecil B. DeMille and decided to name him after Gloria Swanson’s iconic line from Sunset Boulevard: “Alright, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up.”

Close Up’s charm and unique connection with Bible became evident as he began interacting with visitors.
He offered solace to grieving families and brought smiles to many. His presence seemed to fill a special role at the cemetery, providing comfort and companionship to those who needed it most.
