At the Big Cat Rescue sanctuary in Tampa, Florida, lives a small but mighty bobcat named Summer. Nicknamed the “forever kitten,” Summer is adored by many for her bright eyes and tiny stature. Despite her seemingly delicate appearance, she is a fierce little predator at heart. However, due to a unique health condition, Summer can never be released into the wild, making the sanctuary her permanent home.

Summer’s Dramatic Rescue
Summer’s story began with a dramatic and unlikely rescue. At just 2 1/2 weeks old, the tiny bobcat was accidentally scooped up by workers at a demolition site. The unsuspecting workers had not seen the small kitten and only realized she was in the excavator bucket after the fact. By then, the little bobcat was in a dire state, dehydrated, injured, anemic, and suffering from salmonella, fleas, and multiple parasites. She was in critical condition, unable to use her front legs, and could only slide around on her face.
The rescuers at Big Cat Rescue took immediate action. Despite her grim condition, they were determined to give her a fighting chance. Round-the-clock care ensued, with the team working tirelessly to nurse her back to health.
