The Epicenter of Love: Ruth Gemmell as Violet Bridgerton
‘Bridgerton’, the popular Netflix series, in its third season finds Violet Bridgerton, played by Ruth Gemmell at a tricky juncture in her life. She still has unmarried children for whom she cares dearly but according to Regency social customs, it’s time she hands over the rein to her dutiful daughter-in-law, Kate, who is the new Viscountess Bridgerton. However, much to the audience's delight, Kate insists that Violet continues to guide the Bridgerton family.
The Strong Matriarch Ready for Love
This plotline can certainly viewed as a commentary on Ruth Gemmell’s nuanced role in the series. Instead of receding her to a background character, the writers have magnified her importance as the heart of the Bridgerton family and possibly set up the possibility of a romantic arc for her.

“She’s probably a little bit jealous, seeing her children fall in love. It awakens something in her that she didn’t expect to feel again,” commented Gemmell.
Viewing her children's love lives seems to hold up a mirror, forcing Violet to come face to face with the void left by her late husband's demise.
