Rye was an underdog in a world where individuals were valued based on their control over magical dolls called automations. After witnessing the brutal massacre of his family, Rye survived and was rescued by a mysterious woman who gifted him the strongest automation in existence. Fueled by revenge, he set out for a prestigious academy, where the enigmatic killer was rumored to be hiding.
During his journey, Rye encountered a troublesome situation on a train. His humanoid automation, Yea, attempted to seduce him, but Rye, focused on his goal to become the strongest puppeteer, rejected her advances.
When the train began to accelerate uncontrollably, Rye realized it would crash if not stopped. Yea bravely climbed atop the train to find the emergency brakes, but they were too slow. Together, Rye and Yea manually halted the train just in time, preventing a disaster. Grateful that no passengers were harmed, Rye and Yea proceeded to the academy.

At the academy, Rye was ranked disappointingly low, which frustrated him given his hard work and Yea’s capabilities.
Professor Kim, a stern teacher with a commanding presence, warned him that improving his rank and reaching the evening party—a prestigious competition for the top 100 rankers—would be challenging.
