Springboks Stun All Blacks, Clinch First Freedom Cup in 15 Years
The Springboks have finally done it—securing their first Freedom Cup in 15 years after a nerve-wracking 18-12 victory over the All Blacks. The win not only marked their fourth consecutive triumph over their New Zealand rivals but also solidified South Africa’s dominant run in the 2024 Rugby Championship.
This clash between the world’s top rugby nations was every bit as intense as expected.
From the opening whistle, it was clear that neither side would back down easily. Both teams traded penalties early on, with the All Blacks drawing first blood through Damian McKenzie’s sharp kicks. Yet, despite New Zealand's slim 9-3 lead at halftime, the momentum began to shift towards the home side as the game wore on.

The Springboks, spearheaded by captain Siya Kolisi and Malcolm Marx, brought the heat in the second half.
Kolisi’s try in the 50th minute gave South Africa its first lead of the game, with Handre Pollard adding crucial points from the tee. Marx then sealed the deal with a late match-winning try that brought Cape Town to its feet.
