Who knew Jensen Ackles had a side hustle as Cupid? The Supernatural heartthrob played matchmaker for his co-star, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and actress Hilarie Burton, orchestrating a meet-cute worthy of a Hollywood rom-com. And the best part? It all went down in a casual Irish pub.
During an appearance on Morgan and Burton's new AMC show, Friday Night In with the Morgans, Ackles spilled the tea on that fateful night.
"Hilarie was in town visiting, this was in L.A., and she was staying with us and so we went out one evening," Ackles recalled, setting the scene. "I remember it. It was like an Irish pub in Toluca Lake."
"Irish car bombs, baby!" Morgan chimed in, adding a dash of his signature swagger.
Ackles continued, painting a picture of their cozy pub rendezvous: "And there we were sitting, the three of us. I convinced [Morgan] to come down the street and meet us for a drink, and you did. And you pulled up in your Harley, and we were sitting there in the front window, and Hilarie sees this guy get off a bike in slow-motion and take his helmet off and throw his hair [around].
”
Even after all these years, the memory elicited laughter from the couple.
“It was all very surreal," Ackles concluded, a hint of awe in his voice. "You walked in, the two of you locked eyes, and that was pretty much the rest of the evening.”
That chance meeting blossomed into an enduring love story. Morgan, known for his role as the charismatic (and sometimes terrifying) Negan on The Walking Dead, and Burton, beloved for her portrayal of Peyton Sawyer on One Tree Hill, have been inseparable ever since. The couple, who wed in 2019 and share two children, now reside on a sprawling farm in upstate New York, a testament to their down-to-earth approach to love and life.
