The world of NCIS is about to get a whole lot bigger. Mark Harmon, the face of the long-running naval procedural for two decades, is stepping back into the shoes of Leroy Jethro Gibbs. But this time, he's taking fans on a journey back in time with “NCIS: Origins”, a prequel series set in 1991. The series, greenlit for the 2024-25 broadcast season, will focus on a young Gibbs at the dawn of his career at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office, exploring his formative years and the budding friendship with his mentor, Mike Franks.

A Family Affair: The Harmons Take Charge
This new chapter in the NCIS saga is a true family affair. Mark will reprise his iconic role, but in a familiar twist reminiscent of “Young Sheldon,” he’ll be the narrator, guiding viewers through Gibbs’ early days. Meanwhile, his son, Sean Harmon, who previously portrayed a younger Gibbs in the original series, will step into the role of executive producer.
"The character of Gibbs has been an important part of my life for 20 years, both in watching my father craft the role and previously having the honor to play young Gibbs myself," Sean, 35, shared with a glimmer of excitement in his eyes.
