The CW’s Supernatural, with its tale of monster-hunting Winchester brothers, captured hearts for 15 seasons. But while Sam and Dean Winchester remain fan favorites, their parents, John and Mary, haven’t fared as well in the popularity contest. In fact, some fans argue that the show’s creators missed the mark when it came to writing these complex characters.

“I don’t feel any emotion or sympathy for them,” writes one disgruntled viewer on a Supernatural forum.
“Bobby and Jody were more like parents to Sam and Dean. I couldn’t care less about Mary, whether she lives or dies.”

Mary's return in the later seasons was supposed to be a game-changer. After all, Dean had spent his life idealizing his mother, imagining her as the perfect antidote to their tough, hunter lifestyle. But instead of a heartwarming reunion, viewers got a Mary Winchester who was… well, kind of cold.
“She wasn't the perfect fantasy Dean remembered,” one fan observed. “She was flawed, emotionally damaged, and prone to the same reckless self-sacrifice as the rest of the Winchesters.
