In a fantastical world where Hajime Nagumo, an underachieving high school student, is transported with his classmates to battle a demon invasion, he finds himself thrust into a perilous situation. Expected to become a hero, Hajime’s hopes are dashed when his unique class, Transmuter, proves largely ineffective compared to his peers' abilities. Despite being bullied and underestimated, Hajime's determination remains unshaken. However, during a dungeon expedition, a trap causes Hajime and his classmates to fall into the dungeon's depths, where his situation becomes dire.
As Hajime navigates the dungeon's dangerous lower levels, he is attacked by a monstrous bear, leading to severe injuries. He takes refuge in a cave, where he discovers holy water from a crystal that heals wounds and curses. Desperate and at his lowest, Hajime decides to turn his misfortune into strength. He consumes the flesh of a monster, which alters his DNA, enhancing his abilities and giving him new powers. With these newfound abilities, he fights back, crafting weapons and defeating monsters with renewed vigor.
During his journey, Hajime encounters a vampire princess named Yue, who was imprisoned by traitors.
