Miori Tolka, a high school student with little personality and an even lesser presence, has grown used to living a life of isolation due to a traumatic childhood and abusive parents. His coping mechanism is simple: fade into the background, avoid trouble, and stay invisible. However, one day in class, Miori breaks his usual pattern when the class bully, Oyaada, begins tormenting the class president, Soku, by stealing her book. The rest of the class remains indifferent, including their teacher, who clearly despises his job.

Despite his usual instincts to avoid conflict, Miori decides to intervene and asks Oyaada to return the book. Oyaada is taken aback that someone like Miori, a nobody in his eyes, would dare stand up to him. Just as Oyaada is about to direct his bullying at Miori, the class alpha, Takuto, steps in. Takuto doesn't particularly care about Miori or Soku, but the noise is annoying him, and he commands Oyaada to quiet down.
Reluctantly, Oyaada returns Soku’s book but immediately redirects his bullying to a different classmate. The apathetic teacher finally steps in, only because he's worried that if Oyaada pushes this student too far, he might lose his annual bonus.
