What Is a Pilonidal Abscess?
A pilonidal abscess forms when an ingrown hair or other debris becomes trapped in these sinuses. Over time, the trapped material can lead to an infection, causing the area to become swollen and filled with pus. This results in a painful, inflamed area known as an abscess.
