The tragedy unfolded after an intense argument with the children's mother, escalating into a fatal arson that has since gripped the nation’s attention.
It was just before midnight when Washington’s actions culminated in disaster. Following the argument with his children’s mother, who was not home at the time, he made threats to burn down the house. The mother, horrified by what she was hearing, immediately called 911. In a desperate plea, she could be heard telling the dispatcher: “I hear the kids screaming. Please, don’t let anything happen!” Moments later, the house was engulfed in flames, sealing the fate of the innocent children trapped inside.
Despite swift responses from firefighters, 3-year-old Avery died at the scene.
