In a series of shocking revelations, the notorious Cantrell Funeral Home in Detroit, Michigan, has been exposed for appalling misconduct and negligence. This troubling story first came to light in 2017, and by 2018, the full extent of the funeral home's horrifying practices was unveiled.
The investigation into Cantrell Funeral Home began amidst troubling rumors and complaints about improper body storage and delayed funeral preparations. In November and December 2017, Michigan's Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) attempted to inspect the funeral home but was initially denied access.
This refusal raised serious concerns, prompting a more thorough investigation in early 2018.

By April 2018, LARA suspended the funeral home's license after discovering bodies in advanced stages of decomposition, some covered in mold. The conditions inside the funeral home were described as unsanitary, with an unlicensed embalming room and significant evidence of gross negligence. The investigation revealed that the funeral home had been improperly storing bodies in a refrigerated garage to mask the odor, instead of conducting proper burial or cremation services.
The situation deteriorated further in August 2018 when an anonymous tip led investigators to discover additional hidden corpses. Despite this, it wasn’t until October 2018 that a major breakthrough occurred.
