The anime begins on an ordinary day, but soon chaos erupts as people across the world suffer heart attacks, drivers lose control, and pilots crash. Amid this apocalyptic upheaval, a pink-haired woman leads an army of cloaked figures. Among the chaos, we meet a group of orphans running to their home, the Haacuia Orphanage. Among these children are Mikhail La Hayacua, a friendly blonde boy, and Yichiro Hayacua, his moody dark-haired brother.
As the children arrive, a broadcast announces the release of a fatal virus intended to punish humanity for its sins.
The virus has no cure, sealing humanity’s fate. Inside the orphanage, the children find their kind caretaker has succumbed to the virus. The broadcast further reveals that children under thirteen are spared and are being collected by the Third Progenitor, a sinister figure known as Tapes. Moments later, cloaked figures breach the orphanage, shattering windows and abducting the children.
Four years later, the cloaked figures are revealed to be vampires who use the abducted children as livestock, harvesting their blood in exchange for keeping them "safe.
" Yichiro, now twelve, despises the vampires and refuses to eat the meager food provided. Mikhail, however, tries to stay positive, grateful that they are still together.
