In a gripping tale of resilience and transformation, Lou Shu's life takes a dramatic turn from hardship to extraordinary power. The story begins with a tragic past where Lou's mother, desperately escaping her stalkers, hides in an orphanage, leaving her newborn son, Lu Shu, in the care of the orphanage's owner. Before disappearing, she requests that the owner look after her baby and leave him a walnut pendant as a memento. Her sudden disappearance leaves Lu Shu orphaned and under the care of the orphanage.
Fast forward eighteen years, Lu Shu has grown into a struggling young man, living in poverty and taking care of his younger sister, C. Despite his financial woes, Lu Shu constantly indulges his sister's whims, even spending money on festival scams to keep her happy. During one festival, Lu Shu and C witness a mysterious magician whose flames nearly burn Lu Shu's face off. As time freezes and the walnut pendant glows, Lu Shu realizes the man’s abilities are not mere illusions but magical.

Intrigued, Lu Shu sneaks backstage with C to investigate. They witness a tense situation where a magician is shot with a tranquilizer by mysterious men.
