General Hospital fans were left reeling after last Friday's episode, which saw fan-favorite Dr. John Cates (played by the talented Adam J. Harrington) meet a dramatic end, courtesy of two bullets fired by none other than mob boss Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).

The internet exploded with speculation: was this truly the end for Dr. Cates?
Harrington himself took to Twitter on Sunday, confirming the news in a series of heartfelt tweets.
"Well @GeneralHospital it was a BLAST, literally!" he wrote, acknowledging the explosive (and fatal) nature of his character's departure.
"To @valentinifrank, producers and writers. Thank you for the SHOT at joining your world. I loved it," he continued, expressing his gratitude to the show's creators.
Harrington's genuine appreciation for his colleagues shone through. "To the phenomenal cast and crew. It was an honor to witness the CALIBER of your work. Now, seriously, I will miss you all."
An Outpouring of Love From Fans
The actor didn't forget the viewers who made his time on the show so special. "To the @GeneralHospital viewers and fans. It’s been an honor being in your world, and feeling your passion," he tweeted.
