In the finale of 'House of Dragons,' fans were left buzzing with excitement and theories when Daenerys Targaryen appeared in Daemon's vision. For many, it seemed like a key confirmation: Daenerys is the Prince That Was Promised. However, producer Ryan Condal has put a clear lens on this interpretation, dispelling any certainties around this epic prophecy.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan explained: “Remember that Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire, House of the Dragon in many ways, are warnings about the perils of power and people in power and absolute power, the reason there was no Jon Snow was the connectivity for us is specifically in and around the dragons.
The connectedness between this family and the family to come.

“We know who Daenerys is watching that image, but Daemon has no idea — that could be his future daughter with Rhaenyra. So for that reason, I think it was important that it was Daenerys the image. We are not trying to make any kind of specific interpretation of a prophecy that has yet to be revealed by its author. That is George’s space to tell that story.
”Okay, so if you’ve forgotten let’s have a little refresher on why The Prince That Was Promised has been such a big deal in both House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones.
The Prince That Was Promised is a prophecy that points to a saviour who will essentially save the world from darkness, and there are some criteria the individual must fulfil. These being they must be born amidst salt and smoke beneath a bleeding star, will wake dragons from stone and will pull a sword named Lightbringer from flames.

The prophecy is translated from Valyrian where the word prince has no gender attached, meaning the promised hero could either be a man or a woman.
During Game of Thrones, it was fiercely debated whether Daenerys or Jon Snow was the Prince That Was Promised.
The prophecy is an equally important plotline in House of the Dragon as Viserys tells Rhaenyra of Aegon the Conquerer dreaming about the Long Night. Aegon believed the only way to defeat the Night King was to have a Targaryen and their dragons leading the whole of Westeros into battle.
